Scuol, in the lower Engadin, is a great winter destination. It is surrounded by beautiful nature and has a family friendly atmosphere. Set in the midst of many other winter destinations in Switzerland, Scuol is a vibrant,  yet cosy mid-sized resort where you can enjoy several kinds of winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snowshoe hiking and cross-country skiing.

My husband and I visit Scoul every winter to ski and snowboard. I love this place because of the good memories I have  of past experiences and its family-friendly atmosphere. I first started skiing at the ski resort of Motta Naluns 7 years ago, when I relocated from Japan. I was a beginner then and unlike others, did not give it up because of fear. I luckily got into it, thanks to my young and handsome private ski instructor and the beautiful, wide and long slopes. By the end of the season, I was skiing down black slopes.

I like this resort also because there is a good combination of easy slopes and some challenging black (advanced) ones. My favourite one is a well-known 12 km long ski run called the 'dream slope' (Traumpiste) which goes down to the beautiful old town of Sent.

The restaurant near the main lift serves traditional Engadin specialities, my favourite being the spare ribs. We also love sampling regional wines in the restaurants around town before ending the day with a delicious apres-ski cocktail at the Hotel Belvédère. I always buy some regional wines, cheese and dry meat (Salsiz) to take home, so that I can keep enjoying the “Lower Engadin” for a while longer.

Besides engaging in the various winter sports, you could also relax in the thermal baths or spas. I would like to try those as well as go skiing sometime.

Important to know

Scuol is farther away from Winterthur than other popular resorts such as Davos. If you plan to visit, I recommend that you stay overnight.

Kid / Family Friendly?

Yes. Many families with small children visit the resort as there are a few places where children can safely ski or snowboard. A ski school offers lessons for children.
