Pet Information

The following information may help to make the transfer of your pet to Switzerland a little easier; however advice should be sought from your local Vet and the appropriate authorities:

a) A Veterinarian implant/ readable Microchip inserted in your dog and/or cat is compulsory.

b) Most animals require a yearly vaccination against Rabies. The Veterinarian administering the Rabies immunization must be accredited.

c) A Rabies Booster Vaccination following the micro chip procedure is required. The Microchip number must be recorded on the Rabies Immunization Certificate. The Rabies Certificate should be signed in an ink colour other than black, by the administering Veterinarian (rubber stamp signatures, Veterinary practice signatures and staff signatures for the Vet are NOT acceptable).

d) Pet dogs and cats are eligible to enter the European Community member states in varying periods of time after the blood test has been undertaken to insure the Rabies vaccination was successful. Pets entering many of the EU member states from the U.S. are exempt from this process. But Norway, Sweden, the U.K., Ireland and Northern Ireland do require the FAVN-OIE Rabies antibody test as described on their web sites or in their entry protocols (contact the appropriate Authority).

e) For those countries whose entry protocols require Rabies Antibody testing, schedule a return visit to the Vet after a sufficient waiting period -- 14 to 28 days after the chip implant and vaccination.

f) New rules for entering Japan have also been implemented. Mandatory micro-chipping, two rabies immunizations thirty days apart and the Rabies antibody test (FAVN-OIE) is now required. The entry protocol also involves a 40 day pre-alert to enter Japan.

g) You should check with your relocation company that the correct procedure is known and followed for relocating your pet.

h) Before your leave your country of residence also check the requirements and procedure for relocating your pet back home.
